Join us for our 7 Day Pup-Thrive Challenge, a week-long journey of daily inspiration and game-changing habits to boost your pup's well-being and set them on the path to thrive.

DAY 1: Moisture is the secret ingredient to a thriving pup

Proper hydration supports everything from digestion to joint health. A well-hydrated dog is a happy dog. Did you know that dogs are about 80% water? That's why keeping them hydrated is crucial. Adding moisture to your pup's meals can boost hydration levels, especially for kibble-fed dogs. Try mixing  some water, lowsodium broth, or even some raw goat's milk into their food.

Pro tip: Always have fresh water available, and consider placing multiple water bowls around your home. Some dogs prefer running water, so a pet fountain might encourage more drinking. Remember, if your dog is very active or it's hot outside, they'll need even more water. Keep an eye on their water intake and look for signs of dehydration like dry gums or loss of skin elasticity.

DAY 2: It's crunch time

Veggies aren't just fillers; they're nutritional superstars for your pup. Did you know certain vegetables can be a fantastic addition to your dog's diet? These nutrient-packed powerhouses can provide essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber that support your furry friend's overall health.

 Some pup-approved veggies include:

  • Carrots: Great for dental health and packed with beta-carotene
  • Broccoli: Rich in fiber and vitamin C (in moderation!)
  • Pumpkin: Excellent for digestive health
  • Leafy greens: Packed with antioxidants and vitamins

But remember, moderation is key! Veggies should make up no more than 10% of your dog's diet. Always introduce new foods gradually and watch for any digestive changes.

Extra good news: We've done some of the work for you. Top Dog HVM (Healthy Variety Mix aka Variety Blend) comes loaded with the proper amounts of fruits and veggies: celery, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, blueberries, apples, and cranberries.

Pro tip: Lightly steam harder veggies like carrots or broccoli to make them easier to digest. Or try pureeing them and mixing a small amount into your dog's regular food for an extra nutrient boost.

DAY 3: Mealtime or Braintime?

With puzzle feeders, it's both! Mental stimulation during meals can reduce anxiety and slow down fast eaters, preventing gulping and aiding digestion. So light up those doggy neurons and satisfy their appetites all at the same time... Did you know that dogs in the wild spend up to 6 hours a day foraging for food? Puzzle feeders tap into this natural instinct, providing much-needed mental stimulation for our domesticated pups.

Here's why they're pawsome:

  • Prevents boredom and destructive behavior
  • Increases problem-solving skills
  • Helps manage weight by slowing down eating
  • Reduces anxiety and promotes calmness
  • Provides a fun and rewarding experience

Pro tip: You can DIY a simple puzzle feeder by hiding healthy treats in a muffin tin covered with tennis balls. Get creative!

DAY 4: Variety is the spice of life - and the key to a balanced diet

Bored with beef? Tired of turkey? Introducing new proteins can excite picky eaters and provide comprehensive nutrition for your furry friend! Just like us, dogs thrive on dietary diversity. Rotating proteins isn't just about keeping mealtime interesting - it's a powerful way to ensure your pup gets a wide range of essential nutrients. Here's why protein variety matters:

  • Different amino acid profiles support various bodily functions
  • Reduces the risk of developing food sensitivities
  • Provides a broader spectrum of vitamins and minerals
  • Keeps even the pickiest eaters engaged and excited about meals

 Some protein options to consider:

  • Chicken: Lean and easily digestible
  • Fish: Rich in omega-3 fatty acids for coat and brain health
  • Eggs: A complete protein packed with nutrients
  • Duck: A novel protein great for dogs with allergies
  • Lamb: High in iron and B vitamins

Remember to introduce new proteins gradually to avoid digestive upset. Start with small amounts mixed into their regular food and increase over time.

Pro tip: Keep a food diary to track which proteins your dog enjoys most and any changes in their energy or coat condition.

DAY 5: Chew on this!

Raw meaty bones can be nature's toothbrush for dogs. They clean teeth, massage gums, and provide mental stimulation. Regular dental care can add years to your dog's life.

Did you know that by age three, a majority of dogs show signs of dental disease? That's why maintaining your pup's oral health is crucial. Here's why raw meaty bones are a game-changer:

  • Natural plaque removal: Chewing scrapes away tartar buildup
  • Gum health: The gnawing action stimulates and strengthens gums
  • Fresh breath: Reduces bacteria that cause bad breath
  • Mental enrichment: Satisfies natural chewing instincts
  • Nutrient boost: Provides calcium and phosphorus for strong teeth

 Important safety tips:

  1.  Always supervise your dog when giving raw bones
  2. Choose size-appropriate bones to prevent choking
  3. Avoid weight-bearing bones from large animals, as they can damage teeth
  4. Remove the bone after about 10-15 minutes of chewing
  5. Remember, raw meaty bones are just one part of a complete dental care routine. Regular brushing, dental chews, and vet check-ups are also important.

Pro tip: Frozen raw bones can be extra soothing for teething puppies or on hot days!

DAY 6: Treat smarter

Healthy treats can reinforce good behavior and good health. Swap those processed treats for fresh alternatives and watch your pup's tail wag even harder. Did you know treats can make up to 10% of your dog's daily calorie intake? That's why choosing the right treats is crucial for maintaining your furry friend's overall health.

Here's why fresh, healthy treats are a game-changer:

  • Nutrient-dense: Packed with vitamins and minerals
  • No artificial additives: Free from preservatives and fillers
  • Weight management: Lower in calories than many commercial treats
  • Allergy-friendly: You control the ingredients
  • Hydration boost: Many fresh treats have high water content

 Some pup-approved healthy treat ideas:

  • Apple slices (no seeds)
  • Carrot sticks
  • Blueberries
  • Small pieces of lean, cooked meat
  • Frozen banana chunks

Remember, moderation is key! Even healthy treats should be given in small amounts.

Pro tip: Use fresh treats for training sessions to keep your pup engaged and motivated while boosting their nutrition.

DAY 7: Location. Location. Location.

Where your pup eats can be as important as what they eat. No reservations. A calm mealtime environment aids digestion and behaviorCreating the perfect 'doggy dining room' isn't just about aesthetics—it can significantly impact your furry friend's overall well-being.

Here's why the right location matters:

  • Reduces stress: A quiet spot helps anxious eaters relax
  • Improves digestion: Calm environments promote better nutrient absorption
  • Prevents resource guarding: Designated eating areas can minimize food-related conflicts
  • Establishes routine: Consistent meal locations create positive associations with feeding time
  • Enhances focus: Fewer distractions mean more enjoyment of their meal

Tips for the perfect puppy restaurant:

  • Choose a quiet corner away from high-traffic areas
  • Use non-slip mats to keep bowls in place
  • Ensure the area is easy to clean
  • Consider elevated feeders for larger breeds or dogs with joint issues
  • Keep water nearby but separate from food

Pro tip: If you have multiple pets, try feeding them in separate rooms to prevent competition and ensure everyone eats at their own pace.

Remember, consistency is key. Once you find the ideal spot, stick with it to help your pup feel secure and relaxed during mealtimes.

Feeding your pet a natural, raw diet doesn't have to be overly complicated. Sometimes, small, simple changes can make a big difference to your pup's health and well-being. We hope you and your pup have enjoyed our challenge and are already reaping the benefits. We would love to hear how you got on and if you have any go-to raw feeding tips or hacks you would like to share with us.
